Hi I’m Lorrie! I’m a wife, daughter, mom, friend and 16+ year beauty industry veteran. And, I’m on a mission to help women feel beautiful every single day.
My journey into the beauty world began in high school when I would style friend’s hair for homecoming and prom so I could afford my dress for each of the dances. This is around the time that I realized I had an eye for styling hair and a passion to not only create something beautiful, but help women feel beautiful as well.
I soon found myself at age 18 with a Barbers license from Paul Mitchell. I was hired right out of school at my dream salon job!
8 years later, I met and married the love of my life. We wanted to start a family soon after and I knew the “behind the chair” grind and crazy hours just wouldn’t work. So, I started going to Radiology school to become a Radiology Technician as my plan B. After nearly finishing, I knew something was missing and it stopped me in my tracks! I missed the beauty industry and the gratification I would get daily from making people smile. Yet, I knew going back wouldn’t support the life I wanted. I felt so lost, and confused.
I soon found a management position at the first Blow Dry Bar opening in Baltimore! How exciting is that!? We opened the first location and quickly expanded to a second location! Things were starting to fall into place. I was finally in the 9-5 schedule that I was looking for and back in the beauty industry. This was the perfect time for us to start a family!
I was soon expecting a little girl. Along came Hadley Morgan!
A short 9 months after she was born, we were expecting our second; a little boy named Jake Franco! We were on a roll. 17 months apart.. two babies under 2... life was crazy and beautiful all at the same time!
Oh, and career life was perfect, right? Wrong…
While it didn’t make much sense financially, I knew I wanted to be home with my kids. I was soon a stay-at-home mom taking haircuts and color appointments out of my kitchen. Not ideal, but hey, it paid the bills! It was this point in my life that I realized that you cannot plan out your life. I started putting my life in God’s hands and felt safe knowing that he had bigger plans for me. But what were they?
About a year later we moved to Severna Park, MD. I had no clue where my career was going, but I KNEW I was in the right place at home with my babies! I began realizing how fast these years were flying by and knew I needed to have a career plan for when the kids started school. I started to look at schools, and different career options, all the while knowing nothing outside of doing hair or being home with my kids made me happy… I felt lost. I prayed A LOT!
After living in our home for a year, we decided to do some bathroom renovations. I had no clue this would be such a pivotal point in my life/career!
I was in the middle of meeting a contractor for our 3rd quote for the bathroom renovations, and something in the moment made me ask this contractor if a shampoo sink would ever work in this small unused basement space we had. After some looking behind walls and measuring, he felt it was totally possible!
That night, I told my husband my idea and he was super supportive. I didn’t really have any big plans at this time, but I knew I wouldn’t have to wash my clients hair over the kitchen sink any longer, woohoo!
That same week I was invited to a playdate at a friends house where she introduced to me a brand new makeup line that she had started working with. She put the makeup on me and INSTANTLY, I fell in love! This stuff was the best makeup I have ever used and it was so different than anything I had ever used. It looked and felt so natural and took only minutes, and I felt so beautiful!
I realized how new the company still was, and instantly knew that I wanted in too! The very next day, I joined the makeup company Maskcara Beauty. This may have been one of the best decisions of my life.
A few days later, I gave our contractor plans for a full service salon WITH a makeup corner. Ceilings were torn out, and walls were torn down. The shampoo sink idea had now grown into so much more. The salon was ready to use 6 weeks later by Thanksgiving day. I had my first client the very next day!
Fast forward to today, (not even a year later).
I am still a stay at home mom.
I am ALSO a FULL TIME hairstylist working for myself AND a makeup artist for Maskcara Beauty where I get to run my own business in my own time.
My clients that come for hair appointments or weddings are LOVING this new makeup, and those who come to me to try the makeup, soon come back for hair appointments! My cups are overflowing!
I finally get to be with my babies, have a career that supports being home with them, while fulfilling my passion. I get to express my creativity, and receive SO much gratification in helping women look and feel beautiful on a daily basis!
